In September 2024, as part of a programme to reach out to other groups with similar interests to LGB Christians, we contacted Rev Colin Coward from the Unadulterated Love Website. On 18th April 2025 a blog about LGB Christians was posted. We have responded to that article with the response below.
Letter to Colin Coward
27 April 2025
Rev Colin Coward
Unadulterated Love Website
Dear Colin
This is a formal response from LGB Christians to your blog on 18 April 2025, ‘Church of England campaign group attitudes to trans, intersex and non-binary people’.
We were saddened to read your blog, because it contains some inaccurate points and we wish to correct the record. It is a pity that you did not share your blog with us before publishing it, especially as we had reached out privately last year in the summer by phone, directly, in an attempt to begin dialogue.
You say that you had no contact from us despite this not being true. We did contact you on 25 Sept 2024 in an email from Richard Kirker, and we received your acknowledgement, though not a detailed response.
You imply that we are a trans-excluding and conservative group, but that is not true, as you will see from our Q&A. Our supporters include some trans people and a very wide range of views on gender issues, as well as a broad spectrum of political opinions.
What makes us unique is our desire to focus specifically on sexual orientation in response to a resurgent homophobia in the churches, for example in the failure to implement ‘Living in Love and Faith’.
You imply that we are not fully inclusive. If one defines inclusivity as full agreement with your position, the scope for collaboration becomes very limited. The truth is that we do seek to collaborate with other organisations in matters of mutual concern. If you rebuff us, what does that say about your own commitment to inclusivity?
We do still want to work with other Christian organisations and we agree with your call for a more coordinated approach.
It would be a positive development if you would publicly acknowledge these points.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Chater and Richard Kirker
