Do Not Be Afraid: Fear & Identity in the Modern Church

In this introduction to a series, Mark Chater explores the theme of fear and identity within the context of modern UK churches through four fictional yet realistic scenarios. Fionn, a 12-year-old grappling with gender confusion, Rebekah, a researcher on detransitioning facing safety concerns, Callum, a gay man seeking church acceptance, and Frank, a bishop navigating inclusivity, each confront personal and societal fears. Reflecting on the biblical call to "Do not be afraid," the piece examines how faith, education, and pastoral care can provide support and understanding in a complex world. Finding Common Ground: Inclusive Church Rejects Our Approach

Before launching in October 2023 LGB Christians scoped all Christian bodies branding themselves with variants of the LGBTQIA+ acronym, or who used similar messaging, by researching publicly available information. In late September 2024 LGB Christians reached out privately to several of these groups about working with them. Some replied privately. Inclusive Church responded by publishing a statement on their website. This is our response.
